Base offices to call first

Each base page lists the official numbers newcomers call first, such as lodging, the housing office, the visitor center and family services. Each one links to the official page it came from, from the base itself or Military OneSource. When two official pages disagree, we leave the number out instead of guessing. How the lineup is built

Businesses come from public records and open data: state real estate licenses (the Texas Real Estate Commission, Virginia DPOR, Florida DBPR, the California Department of Real Estate, the Colorado Division of Real Estate, the Arizona Department of Real Estate, the Missouri Real Estate Commission, the Kansas Real Estate Commission, the Nevada Real Estate Division, the Tennessee Real Estate Commission and the Alabama Real Estate Commission), state child care licensing (Texas Health and Human Services, Nebraska DHHS, the South Dakota Department of Social Services, the Wyoming Department of Family Services, the Delaware Office of Child Care Licensing, Oklahoma Human Services, the Louisiana Department of Education, the Virginia Department of Education, the California Department of Social Services, Washington DCYF, the Colorado Department of Early Childhood, the Arizona Department of Health Services, Missouri DESE, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, the Tennessee Department of Human Services, Alabama DHR, South Carolina DSS, Maryland MSDE (through Maryland EXCELS) and Montana DPHHS), Delaware real estate office permits, the FMCSA motor carrier census, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation licenses, CFPB mortgage data, base Housing Office lists and Overture Maps open data. We do not copy listings or ratings from Google, Yelp or any review site. Owners can claim their listing free and correct it.

The Colorado Department of Early Childhood provides its child care records as is and does not endorse this site or how we present them; check the state record before you rely on it.

Photos

Each base page shows an openly licensed photo of a nearby town from Wikimedia Commons, with its photographer and license credited under the photo. Category photos and the home page video (a sunrise over the highway by Matthias Groeneveld) come from Pexels and are used under the Pexels license. State outlines come from US Census boundaries, which are public domain.

The License checked badge

When a business matches a public license record, its listing shows the badge, the number and a link to the official lookup, so you can check it yourself. We never call a business military friendly unless the business says so itself.

Paid listings

Businesses can pay a flat monthly price to be Featured or to hold the one Top Spot in their category at a base. Paid listings are always marked as paid. We never charge per lead or per sale. Families never pay.
